Failure to Communicate

One of the failures of communication is when one or both people (or even more) don’t recognise the same situation within themselves that they complain about.
*
Example:
For instance a man was very nasty towards me for a while, and I took it for a while and then finally retaliated in anger.
Some months later another person treated this person, who treated me badly, badly – in fact the same as this person had treated me.
About 6 months later the first person (the one who treated me in a nasty way) was complaining about how he was treated badly and how unfair it was on him. But he was completely mentally-blind to how he had treated me – he saw no connection whatsoever and probably didn’t realise that when he was treated harshly it was an opportunity for him to feel what I felt when he treated me badly.
*
When we come to the communication table a person may complain about something about the other person.
The other person may explain why he or she did as they did hoping for sympathy or at least understanding.
Now the people who didn’t like what this person did to them, may themselves have reacted the exact same way to someone else and for the exact same reason.
But at the table of communication they cannot see the connection and so they condemn the other person for doing something that they had previously done themselves.
This action can destroy the communication and cause much needed misery for them all.
We humans, are very good at seeing what we believe is an error in others and fail to understand their actions, and we fail to see the same thing in ourselves.
