You will not get respect from a person by just wishing it to be that way. You want it, because you feel that you have something to say and you feel that what you have to say is important and that it should be listened to. You feel that you have lived life, been through many hard times, learned much, had struggles, feel downtrodden at times and don’t understand why respect does not come to you just because “you are!”
We think because we exist that we should therefore get respect. But this not so. Our attitude has a big impact on how we are received by other people. If we come on too strong, firing on all cylinders with cannons blazing, we will make much noise, cause some dreadful emotional damage and “earn” the opposite to respect, which is deep long lasting disrespect. Loud people are remembered for their loudness and pushy opinions, and they are often avoided by the many.
If we use bad language or insult people or make fun of a gender then we will lose respect from those people. We will lose respect from some if we use bad language no matter how funny we feel that bad language make us – If we use good language and our voice spoken in a clear manner our voice will travel far and nobody will be offended. people will hear you and listen to what you have to say without feeling insulted first.
This means that we will not be heard and even if what we had to say was very important and worthy, our presentation more than likely will ensure that nobody listens. If we don’t respect those that we are talking to and this shows in our manner, and in our words then we will not be heard because we will offend those that we are trying to talk to. They will react accordingly and will not listen and they will more than likely give us back the same treatment in return.
Manners and tact can really help when dealing with people. If we sympathize with people and show respect to the other person no matter who they are and no matter what they have done in life, either good or bad, then we will reach them. If we speak so that the listener does not have any reason to fear us then they will receive our help much easier and clearer. It is sometimes the way that we deliver our help that causes the other person to raise a wall of pride or stubbornness to protect themself, even though on many occasions they don’t need to protect themself your delivery may put them off or frighten them.
Our goal should be to help people and to do this we should do is with a humble caring heart.
