Holding on to Grudges Ruins Our Day.

I wrote an article a couple of years ago about holding onto grudges and the damage it does to our day, and also letting people get to us and ruin our day.

The example went like this.
You are walking down the street and a car slows down and the occupants of the car start yelling abuse, then they laugh and zoom down the road.

From this moment on we have two ways of dealing with this. We can lose our cool and rant, rave and fume about it in our head all day.
This bad mood will pass on to family, work mates, people we meet for the rest of the day. Our grumpy attitude will hurt innocent people’s feelings etc.

Or we can immediately let it fly over our head and forget about it and get on with our day.

We must remember that if we let people get to us in a negative way it grows and grows in our minds, and our anger grows as the day progresses, and people see it, sense it, and it also upsets our physical health. Pride, anger etc make us a slave and ruin our life.

Thankfully once we realize that someone ranting on social media, yelling at us etc is just a reflection of their character, or that they are just having a bad day, we can let it bounce off us and get on enjoying our own day. Why give them power to upset your day, especially because once they get down the road they have forgotten you after a laugh about it and they are getting on with their own day. You are out of their mind, so toss them out of your mind.

The next time someone has been rude or abusive to you, please show them that you are not going to reply back negatives like them. And that, just because they lost control or they are rude to you that you are not like that, that it is not your style and you are not going to let their negatives dictate your day.

This good example of self control that you show will be an example to younger people (for instance your own children) and they will want to be strong willed like you. They will admire you for your strong character and how quickly you pull yourself together and don’t let the negatives of life get to you.
