I really think that God wants us to save our own selves because the end result of that is a stronger, confident person that can face they world in a helpful manner.
°
We need good strong honourable people in the world in these dark times.
°
For some years I argued with God about things that I had been through and what I was going through, and God just allowed most of it to continue, and then one day it occurred to me that if I saved myself then I would be a far better person than if someone saved me.

It is kind of like the damsel in distress situation.
Is it better that a Knight comes and saves her, or that she gets up the courage to face her captors face to face and kicks some butt and goes off to find her new life?
She will be confident, more courageous, and stronger in willpower if she saves herself.
*
But if the Knight saves her she will remain pathetic, weak and gullible, and like that she will be nothing but a thorn in the Knights side after they marry.
But if she learns to courageously fight her own battles, her Knight will know that he has an awesome woman at his side every day that he can trust fully and who he can rely on, and together they can be a blessing to each other and to the world.

These days I am fully convinced that we are far stronger than we think that we are. I am amazed at how much pain I can handle (without medicine), and that has convinced me that comfortable living has made us weaker in many ways.
We are able to set ourselves free, we need to know and believe that we can do it though. We need faith in our struggles that good will come from them, and that happiness is ahead.
°
It is all about doing the right thing no matter what is happening in our lives, being an encouragement no matter what is going on in our lives, and faith that God will lead us right.
°
The sooner we see positively, the sooner it will happen.
