If a person has a weakness and he or she, or a group of people don’t want to give it up, they will choose to call the weakness, “a choice”.

They will argue in defense of the weakness.
They will talk about their rights to choose for themselves.

They will try to make your moral courage sound like you are weak, petty, judgemental, and that you are the one with the weaknesses and mental issues.

In defense of their own weaknesses they will go to great argumental lengths to show you “proof” (opinions of other weakened people, some even educated) that their weakness is not a weakness but a fun or wise choice.

Remember, misery loves company.
They want your company, and they want to see you weak too because that backs up the lies that they tell themselves to excuse and continue their own weaknesses.
Plus, if you refused to accept their ways and weaknesses, then you would succeed far beyond them, and your happiness and success frightens them very much, because that will prove to them and to the world that they are the true weak ones, and that all they were really trying to achieve was to ruin your life and happiness.
