There will always be someone putting you down to others.
Many will put down the person you married, condemn the relationship based on their worthless opinions.
The point is not what other people think, the point is what do you really want in life, love, partner, lifestyle, what makes you happy.
Once we strip away our fears of other people’s opinions, stop people pleasing, remove our own pride, vanity and fake, we are more open to what they world has to offer (rather than the limited view others gave us) and we see love for what it truly is in other people, and we fall in love with the person who fills our heart, who we probably wouldn’t have wanted previously because we didn’t know what love looked like or how it felt to really be in love.
