Practical Advice You Can Use.

It is better to offer less of your body to your opponent.

Why do we turn our body to the side when preparing for a fight?

The concept is to not allow the opponent free access to our body, protect our organs and the vital parts of our body that when hit would defeat us or at least wear us down so that we can be defeated.
Richard the Lionheart was a castle designer, and he developed the idea that if parts of the castle were round or half-round then if cannon balls or whatever hit the castle they would slide off, deflect or veer away from the castle. If a flat surface was available for attack then holes would be easily made when the castle was hit straight on.

Offering your body to your opponent in a flat wide stance offering your opponent many areas
of your body to defeat you with.

Front Facing – Feet Shoulder Width Apart – is offering your opponent a full frontal target area to attack. This is not a good idea.
Turning to your side gives your opponent a smaller target area, with your weapons in front and your vital target area’s behind them.

Wisdom is not thinking you are the best or that you know it all or that another fighting method is useless.
The fact that a fighting method was designed and is used by large amounts of people, or even a few, is proof that it works and that it should be respected for what it is.
A lot of people put own a certain martial art where the childrne get black belts and so on, and they are often called killer weenies and such names. But in reality, at school or somewhere where they could be hurt by a bully, the little or what they know can be enough to save them.
Personally I don’t follow any grading system, and you will note that the most effective fighters or famous fighters use a bit from all fighting methods, because what works works, what doesn’t doesn’t, so getting bits from here and there is useful and can make a big difference on that big day when needed.

Please don’t ever let your opponents know what you can do.
And if you publicly practice a certain martial art, you can secretly know other defence and attack moves so in a real fight you have the element of surprise. many arrogant people go into a fight with a mental; fight plan in their heads, so when you pull something out of the bag that they were not expecting then you throw off their plan and they then react mentally confused and then you can beat them.

The idea of going low in a stance is to give yourself more balance and to offer your opponent less of a target to attack.
There are many stances in martial arts that many would not use in a real street fight, but they are good for dexterity, flexibility, and the conditioning of the mind and body.

Many prefer Nautilus Gym Equipment like Home Gyms,  to using Barbell Workouts with weights.
A mix of both is effective, but don’t get too caught up on your image, muscles and such, because while they help there have been many fighters or people in fights that pure intense desire to win got them through and defeater the enemy.

Some martial arts tell you to move your hands in front of your face in fancy ways to put off your opponent, and this does work, but if you hands are in front of your face you cannot, even for  vital second, not see what your opponent is doing, and you could be wearing a nose-breaking fist before you see it coming. With that in mind I don’t support putting your hands in front of your face if you can help it.

Going The Distance:
Many advocate long runs, or cycling, to maintain an attitude of making not giving up and to keep going no matter what.
This exercise and attitude is good for motivation. To have a plan and to complete it is good for constant motivation, but also if you do not complete it make it a positive goal to get it done next time.

Running, cycling, workouts, on a regular basis are a constant message to your mind that you can, will, and should get it done. This will affect the rest of your life as well, and you will find that when life’s challenges come up you will be determined to succeed and especially to get things done, finished, completed, and then more on to the next thing with the same mind.
