The Dangers of Earphones while Running etc.

I was checking a school on Security Patrol yesterday and I was walking back to the car and saw a red head across the road with long hair jogging. She run on to a T-Section without even looking for traffic, and I said to myself, “Look, you silly girl!” and she at that moment turned back and looked at me.
She then carried on across the road to the other side, and then looked back at me again, she looked a bit nervious.

We get a lot of shady-people when we are on patrol, people who look at us, our uniforms, the security patrol car, and they quickly look panicky, and this female seemed to be doing the same thing, so maybe she had broken the law and didn’t like authority, but…

…something was wrong.

And then it “clicked”, she was wearing big white headphones.

And that is a big no, no when cycling, walking or running, because you becomes so focused on the music you do silly things like run into car traffic like she did, or you walk across the road and don’t look, like she did.

Wearing on your head or ears anything that plays loud music is very foolish, and even if you can hear what is around you, you still hear the music first. Also with the exercise and music you zone-out and are just not as focused as you would have been without the musical influence.

There have been articles on the Internet and in newspapers etc, warning people not to wear such things because they are so dangerous when out in public. Its very foolish and dangerous in my opinion.

Also, someone could walk up behind you and surprise you.

My advice is get a music player like the Bose one that I have which plays music but the player is on my chest on a lanyard, thus it does not affect my hearing when I ride my bicycle or walk.
