Cat Situation – 19-2-2025

The old cat that I was feeding and friends with at a company where he was living appears to have been put-down. All last weekend on Security Patrol I did not see him.

His owner told me some months back that he didn’t want that cat anymore because the cat was going blind. Normally the cat stayed up where the flats were with his owner, but since his owner disowned him he has been sleeping out in the cold.

Previously this cat ignored me and would sometimes take some cat biscuits off me. But since he was disowned he became very sad, and appears to have aged fast, so he may have had other health issues. So I would sit with him, talk to him in the night, pat and comfort him.

One night it was raining and he was waiting for me  in the rain getting drenched, I talked to him, patted his head and he looked miserable.
Tears came to my eyes and I said to him that he was worthy, and stayed with him for a while in the rain.
I went off for my rounds, and saw him at the bottom of a hill on a driveway. He was looking for me.

Another night I realized that he hadn’t much time left and he was very sad and clearly lonely, so I picked him up and noticed that he smelled badly, meaning that he was not taking care of himself anymore, and I carried him to a couch that was outside and sat with him for 10-20 minutes in the dark patting him, talking to him, and letting him know that someone cared. I was behind in my work that night, but felt it was a good thing to be there for him. That was the last time I saw him.

One of the female cats at my place does not like me. I think that when she was young I stepped on her or something and she held a permanent grudge. She stays here, eats the food, but has never been friendly and does not come into the house.
She had kittens outside in the grass. The dog was nosy and wondering what was there, and that mother cat panicked and brought her kittens into the house, and has been moving them around the house into different rooms, and I only know where they are because of the kittens making noises.

At the moment her 4 kittens are in a box on my bed all fast asleep. But the mother cat will probably take them into a closet or under a bed soon.

I have 2 kittens inside living in the house, and 5 kittens outside with their mother at the front of the house, and the dog and 5 cats at the back.

I take out a big feed for all the cats in the mornings and evenings and they eat it all up. It consists of various types of cat food and leftovers from what I ate the previous day.

One kitten who lives in the house, two siblings died, so I stole a kitten from the stray mother cat at the front (she had them in a hole under a tree – 6 of them), and I took the kitten inside to be fed by the distressed mother cat and to give her one remaining kitten a play friend. As the weeks when by they all bonded and now the two kittens (who look totally different) are the best of friends, the mother thinks that they are both hers and treats them as such, and the one which I took from the outside cat at the front, has no idea that those other kittens outside that he sometimes plays with are actually his real family.

For a long time I have been feeding a wild stray in town. He won’t ever let me near him, and he hisses warnings to keep away. But he would wait for me at 2 places in town, and in one place in an alleyway I would park, get him some dinner (cat food that I always carry in the security car) and then just sit with him, use my phone or just talk to him, while he ate.

I really felt that he was trusting me more each time.

Sadly this last 2 weekends he has vanished, probably killed by traffic, because he was constantly crossing the busy highway in his search for food.

Sometimes I feed cats for months on end, and they are wild, scruffy, and then one day they vanish, and I never see them again. The local council kills the wild cats from time to time.

Two places, one in town and another in an industrial area site have small kittens running around. I can’t get near them, but when I see them I leave them food.
