In times of the past wealthy and titled people were called “Snobs” because they felt that they were better than the common folk.
Today, we have a snobbery that anyone can have, and it is based on Pride and a separating our own self from other things. Such as teenagers can refuse to see much good in the past.
Some examples;
A friend asked me for some videos for his teenagers to watch and I gave him some, one movie was in black and white, and my friend told me later that his son refused to watch the movie because it had no colour. He said that his son felt that the movie was so old that it was unimportant, especially for him.
The reality is that the content of the movie is what makes it important, not whether it is black and white or colour.
When I walk and cycle around, sometimes I come across children, teenagers or young adults, and they can comment, “Man, that music is sooo old.” and then make comments that mean that the music is unimportant to them, or “the past”, and not worthy of them who they consider are the future.
Another example is fashion. Where someone will comment on the clothes that someone is weary and calling he or she old, boring, and not “with-it”, because of the clothes that this person wears. But as with everything, it is not the clothes that a person wears, it is the content/character of the person that is really what is important.
Snobbery causes us to pridefully turn our back on good people, people who can help us, or we can help.
What is a snobby person?
Today people can look-down on another person, or an entire family, and assume that they are better, superior, and doing this causes a division that only really exists pridefully in their own mind, in reality it does not exist. Snobbery is something people think, especially about themselves being unfairly better than other people or another person.
People brought up who have a troubled struggling childhood can want to feel better about themselves and subconsciously feel a superior feeling over other people to feel good. Maybe he or she was looked down upon by others, so now that this person is older he or she chooses to look down on others.
The biggest problem with snobbery is that by feeling that way about people, the past, entertainments, music and such, we tend to block off ways or people that can be very good for us, and make our lives much better.
The biggest loser is the person who thinks that he or she is better than other people.
