Small Chainsaw Pruners

These small Chainsaw Pruners are a useful addition to any home, as they can make cutting branches easy.

I have a Pole Chainsaw, with the pruner chainsaw on the end, and used with the chainsaw pruner they are great tools to prune tree’s, and then cut up the branches into smaller pieces. The pole chainsaw cuts the branches up high and the small chainsaw pruner can be used to cut the branches once they are down on the ground.

My chainsaw pruner is not fast, but it is fast enough to cut around 6 inch/15cm branches with no trouble and speeds up when cutting the thicker branches.

These battery powered units if treated well last a long time and have a decent amount of battery life and power.

Looking at the images on Google I see that there are many types and sizes of chainsaw pruners, so it would be wise for you to look around to see what is available and figure out which one you need.

Like larger chainsaws these smaller versions normally use oil/lubricant to lubricate the blade while the chain is moving. So you will need to make sure that the oil tank is full of chainsaw blade oil before you cut anything. You will need to buy separately some good quality chainsaw blade oil.

Companies often offer these units for sale as “Skin Only”, meaning that there is no battery and you can buy it seperatly.

Small branches can be easily cut if they are put at the bottom of the blade. If you look at Fig 2 you can see where the bottom of the blade goes back in to the unit where the arrow is pointing, if the branch is put there it will cut.

I mention this because the first time I used the pruner I was surprised that it was not cutting the smaller branches, but once I figured it out it was easy.

My Pruning Chainsaw uses an 18 volt battery. The advantage of a battery is no two-stroke to mix, no heavy motor, and ease of use. The disadvantage to using batteries is less overall power especially when compared to a petrol engine, but I have found that if you don’t force the cut, but just apply pressure it will cut fine with a sharp blade.
It pays to have two batteries if you have much work to do so that when one goes flat you can use the other fully charged battery and also charge the flat battery at the same time.

You can get extras with these, such as two batteries, a battery charger or part of a bigger set, all at extra cost, so once again I recommend you look around at what the companies offer.

I have used my Small Pruning Chainsaw a lot and I have found it to be very useful and helpful around the house, especially if you have tree’s that need pruning from time to time. Since the unit is small it can be stored away on a wall or shelf in the garage.

I read a review where a man says that he uses the pruning chainsaw for cutting branches on a bush cycle track. He wrote in his review, “This is a great machine. I use for maintaining mountain bike tracks. It cuts quite large branches, just take it easy and don’t force the cut. Very light and portable in my back-pac.”

Removing the chain, adjusting the chain, cleaning the chain area and removing the cover are all simple tasks and once you get used to doing them you will find this no trouble at all.
