A Recliner is a couch/sofa/chair that can be adjusted for comfort, and useful for people with medical needs.
Basically an armchair or sofa (upholstered) designed for comfort such as leaning back and relaxing on, they feature a backrest that tilts backward and a footrest that raises up.
A recliner can be operated manually with a lever, or by leaning motion, or electrically via buttons, this allows the user to sit upright, lounge, or lie in a nearly supine (lying horizontally on the back with the face and torso upward) position to enhance relaxation or relieve back pressure.
About 15 years ago I was having some vertigo issues and some back discomfort, and since I was a single father with no woman in my life, I moved from the bed to the couch in the lounge to sleep. But I slept sitting up, instead of laying down, and as time went by I found this very comfortable.
To my shock I discovered about 5 years ago that after sleeping on a couch for over a decade I was now unable to sleep on a bed anymore.
I discovered on a web site the reason why. You see, when you sleep with your back bent/curved, your back and body muscles develop that curve and they stay that way if you have slept on a couch for many years. When I try to sleep laying down flat on a bed now I wake up with a lot of lower back pain, but it is not spine pain, it is muscle pain. The muscles are now not used to stretching out as they should be, and this causes me discomfort and pain for about 2 hours after I get up.
When a person is in a coma the persons legs must be stretched and other muscles daily to stop them losing their ability to stretch all the way out. with no stretching the leg bends until it can’t bend anymore. Like Passive Range of Motion (PROM).
Recently I was having a lot of sciatica pain on my right side, and it affected most of what I do daily. I decided to try a Recliner Chair to sleep on after I had seen that some people on the Internet recommend a recliner to ease back pain. This way I was still able to sleep, and if I had discomfort I could adjust the chair to make myself more comfortable to get a good nights sleep.
The Recliner chair made all the difference, mainly though because of all the differeent positions you can move in to.
I decided to buy a cheap recliner to try it out, and I am very impressed. The one I got does not have a lever, nor is it electric, all you do to change the chair position is to lean back or forwards, and the chair changes to the position that you want.
I would imagine that if you had back issues a chair such as a Recliner can give you different options to get different positions to suit your back and relieve pain. Possibly a chair like this would also be useful for a broken limb or other injuries.
I have found the Recliner Chair comfortable, but due to it being a cheap Recliner, it is a tad hard, so I have now bought a well padded Recliner Chair.
If you are interested in such a chair I do recommend that you buy one. if you don’t like it someone in your family will like it and use it.
