Galileo Galilei (15 Feb 1564 - 8 Jan 1642)


Galileo did study medicine at the university of Pisa, but his real interests were mathematics and natural philosophy.
 
In 1609, Galileo heard about a spyglass that a Dutchman had shown in Venice, Galileo used this information, and his workmanship skills and mathmatical skills to then make his own telescopes.
 
In 1613 while using a Telescope Galileo discovered that the planet Venus showed phases like those of the Moon, and therefore must orbit the Sun not the Earth.
