Leonhard Euler, (1707-1783). Swiss Mathematician

François Arago said of him "He calculated just as men breathe, as eagles sustain themselves in the air".

Euler made significant contributions to the study of differential equations. Euler systematized mathematics by introducing symbols and lot's more, he also made major contributions in optics, mechanics, electricity, and magnetism.

He worked at the Petersburg Academy and Berlin Academy of Science.
He had a phenomenal memory, Euler lost sight in his right eye in 1735, and in his left eye in 1766. Due to his wonderful memory he continued to publish his results by dictating them. Even with children Euler managed to publish over 800 papers in his lifetime.
