The Devil’s Pride some call this. While a person can be Pleased, or Proud of his or her efforts, child, and so on, Foolish Pride can be very self destructive and devastating.
My mother and father were very much the opposite of what good parents should be but they were very proud of who they were according to how they saw themselves, and most people are like this.
Wealthy people can have much pride, while also a criminal can, who you are and what you do does not seem to matter for many people, if they have pride it controls them and controls what they do.
I remember I offered to buy a car at a good price off someone and the motor had blown. I liked the car and had always wanted one of that make and model, so I offered a couple of hundred more than I knew that the car with a blown motor was worth.
But the woman selling the car didn’t like me and refused to sell the car to me, and instead for $200 cheaper she sold it to someone else. Yet she was greedy and wanted money, but her pride controlled how she behaved and controlled what she did, thus if she did not like you she was not going to do you any favours, even if she lost out.
You can offer to help a person who is worried about other people’s opinions, or worried about being seen with you, or feels ashamed and lower if he or she accepted help from you, and that person would rather die or go without than to accept your help or charity.
This can be very hard for a person who likes to help people, because being refused by someone who obviously and even desperately needs the help that you can give but refuses that help from you can make you feel very, very sad.
Foolish pride is irrational, for some self destructive and limiting their own opportunities in life, for others it can be an excessive sense of self-importance or arrogance that causes people to make poor decisions for themselves (their own worst enemy), ignoring wise advice, or refusing people’s help, ultimately leading to their own detriment. For the ego-driven Foolish Pride blinds the individual/s to their own limitations.
We would have all been involved with people in life who felt very proudful about themselves, to ad nauseam degree’s and yet they are far less imaginative, inventive, or intelligent than you are, but to this Prideful person he or she is far above you.
They say that Pride blinds a person from the truth or from reality. In the case of the person who thinks that he or she is far more intelligent than the person who is more intelligent, the Prideful person does not see reality but a deluded fake reality that they believe really exists.
Often Overwhelming Pride or Foolish Pride or Ego-Driven-Pride is often said to be of the Devil because it limits the truth, limits a persons life, limits people’s attempts to help that person, while also causes the Prideful person to emotionally shame and emotionally or physically hurt someone who liked that prideful person. Each time the prideful person loses a good friend he or she tells themself that it was the other persons fault, and therefore never really understands what the bad effects of Pride does to his or her own life and relationships.
If you consider that God is trying to make the world a better place, more wholesome and loving, prideful people can stop God helping people. A good example of prideful people is the Noah event. Noah tried to reach the many and most ignored him because of Pride and self belief that they had it made, that they didn’t need God, and they could get on just fine without God.
Foolish Ego-Driven Pride can be very Mind Controlling and hide our own mind from what is true.
Being Evenly Balanced means that we have Rational Pride and we still take good advice, help, and such if it comes along and we need it.
