I was watching the video on the Talents and I always thought the story was about abilities not money, but in the video the man says talent is worth $600,000 and that’s a lot of money.
So the man was given one talent, and he did nothing with it, had it buried in the ground, while the others made money out of what they were given. So the impression is, from a business point of view, he failed because he didn’t do something with the money, and even though he didn’t lose anything in business he didn’t do anything with the money to gain back more money.
But if it were ability, if talents actually meant your abilities, talents and what you knew, it reminds me of “don’t hide your candle under or your light under a bushel.”
Therefore God has given you some ability or a talent, or information, and you have something that the world needs to know and can only come from you.
We are all given a reason for being here, and is something we need to achieve for other people, kind of like Florence Nightingale and the huge task she had before her, of completely changing the world’s nursing and hospital setup of which she accomplished wonderfully, saving millions of lives ever since.
Many or most people, today, die without ever completing the tasks that they and God agreed to before that person was born. Probably because Satan gives us easy tasks like getting drunk, and immoral activities parties, et cetera, and God will give us a hard task because we live in materialistic times where the masses are weak minded therefore a task from God would be something to try and wake up the masses and the masses can be sometimes very foolish in their conforming to their weakness, it’s a hard task to wake them up in any way whatsoever.
So using the talents story, God gives a message to 3 people, two people go out and spread the message make changes where they are, make the world a better place, but one doesn’t. The one that doesn’t, does nothing with the message, instead hides his or her light under a bushel.
A person’s light is whatever they have that will shine in the world and make the world a better place, it is the talent, their ability, their wisdom, the message God wants him to share with others.
So God is saying to you, me, everyone, that when I give you something important to know, a message, I expect you to go do something with it, to share it with others, to right a wrong, to make a difference, in the case of Mary it was to save Jesus. Salome could have saved John, but instead she had him killed, he would have died anyway because she was gonna do nothing to help him.
If Mary was to do nothing, then she would have hid her light, her own special message and who Jesus was from the world.
You note the end of the story of the talents, that the man is cast out, he is called lazy and the reason for that is because he did nothing with what was given to him that was powerful and could have been good business, and it God gave you a message it would bring wonderful things, meaningful things, and money, and give society a powerful message that would have helped others.
God will bless those who help them, but the New Testament is heavily based on calling everyone a martyr, to suit the church narrative but it wasn’t the truth. God is trying to say to you today if you have a message don’t hide it, God will look after you, and bless you, and protect you, because God loves you and God wants you to succeed.
The man was scared of the wealthy man, and he was scared of failing, and he uses fears to make what he didn’t do look courageous, he made it look like doing nothing was a good thing, and that him doing nothing meant that the wealthy man would be happy with him, because at least he didn’t lose any money, therefore he must be seen as a good man.
Now imagine God giving you a message, a job, a task, something important to do, and you do nothing with it, you protect yourself by hiding, you take no risks, and you say nothing thus you achieve nothing.
The man in the story becomes very angry and very harsh because the person did nothing. Remember when God got angry with Moses, remember when God got angry at David and the Bathsheba, and so on.
There was Judgment and destruction
The Flood (Genesis 6-9): Seeing widespread violence and corruption, God sent a flood that wiped out nearly all life, sparing Noah, his family, and the animals on the ark.
Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19): The cities were destroyed by fire and sulfur, with Lot and his daughters escaping. Lots wife turned into a pillar of salt because she looked back and new she would miss her sinful way and people – that was her punishment.
The Ten Plagues of Egypt (Exodus 7-12): When Pharaoh refused to free the enslaved Israelites, God sent plagues, ending with the death of Egypt’s firstborn.
Wandering in the wilderness (Numbers 14): After the Israelites doubted God and refused to enter Canaan, that generation was condemned to wander 40 years.
The golden calf (Exodus 32): When the Israelites worshipped an idol, many died, and Moses broke the stone tablets in anger.
Exile (2 Kings, Jeremiah): For persistent idolatry and injustice, God allowed Israel and Judah to be conquered, with the people taken into captivity by Assyria and Babylon.
Jonah in the big fish.
Individual consequences
Adam and Eve (Genesis 3): Expelled from Eden after eating the forbidden fruit.
Cain (Genesis 4): Became a wanderer after murdering Abel.
Tower of Babel (Genesis 11): God scattered the people and confused their languages.
Jonah and Nineveh: God sent a warning, and when the city repented, he spared it.
The prophets repeatedly warned people before judgment came, and the Bible often describes God as “slow to anger” and willing to relent when people repented (Exodus 34:6, Joel 2:13).
God does not favour those who can do something and have abilities and don’t do it, God does not favour even his favourites like David and Bathsheba when they don’t to do as he wants to do. Many stories portrayed David as the bad guy and Bathsheba as a good person, but a movie I saw, showed Bathsheba showing off her body to David tempting him and she knew he was watching her, and when you think about that that sounds more like reality and when God punished both of them God was saying I know both of you did wrong, not just David.
The point is, is that God had a lot of faith in David, and God deeply wanted David to honour God and the people but instead David did something terrible and had to be punished for it.
David was a great man, but he weakened through lust, he also weakened because he didn’t want to keep waiting for God to put everything together for him, so in his haste he got seduced, and then he saw his doings as good, and then he protected himself, and had a good time with Bathsheba, until he was told what he done wrong and reminded that he’d turned his back on God and done a very evil thing.
David had Bathsheba brought to him and got her pregnant. He then arranged for Uriah, one of his loyal soldiers, to be placed at the front of a battle so he would be killed.
God sent Nathan to David. Rather than accusing him outright, Nathan told a story about a rich man with many sheep who took the one beloved lamb of a poor man.
David was furious at the rich man and said he deserved to die. Nathan replied with the famous line, “You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12:7).
Nathan the Prophet told David that God would bring consequences, and the child born to David and Bathsheba died.
David admitted, “I have sinned against the LORD,” and Psalm 51 is traditionally linked to his repentance.
If God gave you somebody to marry, and you go and sleep with someone else, that someone else was also meant to marry someone else, so you are not only ruining your marriage that is God ordained but someone else’s marriage that was God ordained. You have no idea that other person was going to find the right person, but because you came along like Bathsheba, and slept with a person you destroyed a person’s future like Bathsheba did with David. Do you think God will see you as a sinner for doing this, do you think God will be angry at you.
The message is to be strong not to be weak, not to give in to sin, not to give in to unworthiness, to think about other people and not just yourself, to not pretend that your sins are good, to not pretend your weaknesses good, to not veer away from the calling God has giving you and then make excuses why you can’t follow the calling God is giving you.
You must understand, that when you don’t follow God, regardless of the lies you tell yourself and regardless of the lies people tell you, the Bible gives clear examples of God punishing the people who should have known better, who should have done what God wanted them to do, and when the time came to do it they didn’t – don’t be that person yourself.
See God as good in your mind, and regardless of what you fear, realise that anything God asks you to do will be something wonderful, and even though you cannot see it now, God has already planned it to be wonderful for you, to be the best you could ever want, to be a greater dream that you could ever believe was possible for you, God can take small people, people that the world looked down on and make them great people, trust God with all your heart, and even though things may look scary bad or worrying, God is already worked it out in your favour.
When you doubt yourself, and you doubt the plan, you doubt God, and when you doubt God you give yourself to Satan. And remember God cannot be with those that are with Satan, and God is capable of a strong anger, God is slow to anger, and while God is gracing you God is protecting you, helping you, but when you ready, and God puts before you what he wants you to do and you don’t do it expect God’s anger because the Bible is full of examples of when God had finally had enough of people who were supposed to do wonderful things, just because God is being nice to you up till now don’t expect God to be thankful that you’re a coward, or that you won’t try, or that you bury your light in the ground or hide under a bushel.
When God is behind you it will become true no matter how impossible it looks to you, God has built your faith, it God is showing you example after example after example, God has blessed you God has protected you God it’s made safe way for you, God is not done this so you can be selfish and only think yourself like David did.
Remember David took on Goliath because he had many experiences as a shepherd and God protected him, so he expected, when he took on Goliath that he would be protected. But then David foolishly thought he was so well protected that he could do no wrong and he expected God to go along with it.
The lesson here for you and I, is to know that God protected us in the past and looked after us in the past, but not to be so foolish that we would expect God to just let us go and do something stupid and evil or bad or moral or indecent, or marry the wrong person, or hurt someone, and just let it ride, in other words foolish people expect God to do nothing when they do bad things.
Always remember that if you do wrong once God’s grace has been lifted from you you will be punished, and you will be punished harshly, or maybe God will just turn away and leave you to your foolishness and get the just reward you deserve, whatever the case the safest thing to do is to do what God wants you to do and stay in God’s loving care-remember. God cannot do evil or be with those who do evil.
