The Family Classroom

Like finding who taught you things in the past, you can consider events that happened to you that made an impact on your life,
and what your family taught you about that event.

Many of the issues that we struggle with today came from the “family classroom”.

As we grow up the world is our classroom. Our family and often close relations, and family friends are our “teachers of life”.
The education system and schools are only teachers of school education, not teachers of real life.
We have discovered that all people that we have met and their advice, guidance, help and prejudices, hates, dislikes, fears, angers, were impressed upon our lives when we were growing up. These impressions we gained off other people helped to form our own impressions, opinions etc of life. They helped mold our character for good or bad.

Remember, all children want the love of their parents, and to get that love, and approval of the parent/parents the child must do things that the parent approves of (even if the child has doubts about what the parent wants the child to do, or what advice the parent gives to the child).
Please think of the times in your life when you experienced confusion, relationship issues, conflicts, life changing events, etc, or when life became uncomfortable for you.
You can write them down.

Now think of each one and hold it quietly in your mind. Think of that subject, then let your mind fill up of everything that came about from that subject, and how you reacted, and how others reacted and what they did. Think of any advice you were given.
Are you still suffering over this year’s later?
You may be surprised at what comes to mind. Just let it come forth. You might find thought’s and feelings that are the opposite to what you have been trained or groomed not to believe, or to believe.
What affect did your family, and other adults have on these memories? Did they make things better or worse?
You can write down an event, give it a title. Write down what happened, then what the immediate result was. Write down your emotions and feelings at that time. Then think of those who influenced you, and what you did. Did you do as you were told so that you gained their approval, but it was not what you really wanted to do? Or did you do what was the right thing to do? What was the long term result of all of this? Is it still an issue for you years later, and if it is then why is it still an issue? What are your heart-felt feelings about it now?

We can find that when we grow up that the family taught us wrong in many areas. They taught us from what they believed was right, and they expected us to follow. But if your parents had mental illness issues, bad habits, immoral weaknesses, ones that were not detected by society (but were skeletons in the family closet) Then they would have taught you according to what they believed.

Facing the truth like this is not an attack on our parents, it is finding out where our struggles came from and dealing with them so that we can be free today.
If your parents did lead you astray please don’t blame yourself if you followed them. If you did followed them you were looking for acceptance, love and approval from those who mattered to you the most.
It is time to take over your own life now. Do your research, it is for your own good and freedom.
