Idols

I heard a good sermon about Idols and wanted to mention Idols here. In the past they had Jade Idols and Stone Idols etc. Now if we were to have a Jade Idol in our home these days then we are not to follow it because it doesn’t know anything and it will lead us to wild imaginings and to being lost in the world. We will greatly suffer for following the wrong source and may have already done so in the past.

So we are to follow God only.

Look at these verses:

Acts Chapter 17, verses 16-19:
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

To the people who followed idols Paul was strange because he taught something new that they had never heard before in their own lives. It may have even frightened some.

This is how the public today can see us, as strange.

They don’t know what we know and it is not their faults either. We are to bring them the Good News with love in our hearts and a will to help out.

Humans have that deep set feeling inside them that makes them look for God. They can feel it inside them that they want to have a higher being that is spiritual and can help their lives. If they don’t believe in God then they will make their own Gods (that is what we were told in the sermon and this is so true – history shows so many people following idols, praying to them, sacrificing people and even babies to stone for better crops and such – today children are being sacrificed for careers and more fun times. Following the false god’s or idol’s leads us to things that we normally would do – things that God does not support)

God tells us here:
Exodus Chapter 20, verse 3:
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

If we have other gods like the Jade idol (or whatever) then we will not listen to God we will instead just get lost in life and the results of our life will show for it. These idols are spiritually lifeless and have no use except for people to look at and possibly admire.

Isaiah Chapter 45, verse 22:
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

Today people worship many things and even people. We can have people guide us and help us but they are not supposed to run our lives. By our late teens we should be taking yup the reigns ourselves and learning to live on our own steam. TV, radio, Rock Bands, movie stars and such have all become idols and sadly people listen to these people who only have to their credit that they sing songs well.

Matthew Chapter 4, verse 10:
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

We are to distance ourselves from the idols and follow God and only God.

1 John Chapter 5, verse 21:
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Even if we were not religious, people are still putting other things before goodness, and ahead of the family, and such.
