Can you live a happy life without materialistic/carnal excitement?

Some people live to be tripping all the time. By tripping I mean looking for parties, drugs, alcohol times with friends, sports, always trying to find that high in life to keep them feeling happy.

Being relaxed and rested is good for the soul. Many forms of extreme pleasure can be very addictive and the opposite to a content relaxing life. The feeling of excitement, thrills, popularity, the extremes “highs” can pull us away from what is really important in our life. In the end we can be lonely and sad.

To consider whether something has a control in our own life we can test ourself by how we feel when we don’t partake in such activities.

Does your happiness die when you are not prowling the bars with your “friends”?
Get the idea?
If you miss a weekend doing extreme sports do you feel like your week is ruined?
Do you have some sort of fits, or tantrums when you don’t get the thrill of doing that regular activity?

There is nothing wrong with mingling with people and enjoyable times. It is when those times become such an attraction that we ignore those things that really mean something to us (like our children) that they pull is away from happiness.

We can get so caught up in the “head rush” for “what ‘everyone’ is doing” that we forget to enjoy the blessings that we have and the simple things in life that are very worthy and rewarding in a spiritual gentle way.

Going back to the basics of life is important every now and then do that we can refocus on what is good for the soul.

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that “pulling life into us is selfish” and that “reaching out is being loving and a benefit to all”. To give gives us heartfelt satisfaction and peace.

Contrary to what society sometimes encourages us to do we need (for our own good and spiritual harmony) to reach out to others and be a blessing in people’s lives and this gives us peace and spiritual fulfillment.
