Do Unto Others

Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do To You!

The world is a place of great beauty and wonder for many of us, however there is much confusion in our lives as we wander from day to day trying to get some satisfaction and understanding out of the precious time that we have here on Earth.

It is good to help ourselves understand our life and what you can expect of yourself and other people. We will look at ways to interact with work mates, friends, and family in a peaceful and friendly manner which will keep all of you happy most of the time. We will try to avoid conflict and still get our point of view across even to our worse enemy, but you should find that by the time you have finished this book you will have few enemies as you come to understand people and what they are trying to say to you and how you can help them and help yourself at the same time.

This fast paced, hectic world needs people to understand each other in order for a more peaceful interaction with one another. More harmony is needed to help our daily lives run smoothly and efficiently so that we have more time to relax and enjoy our existence with ourselves and our families.

Many of us find loneliness as a way of life, instead of it being just a sad feeling that we sometimes have when we are by ourselves and nobody is near. Although we may be surrounded by many people day in and day out we still feel the deep sense of loneliness as a constant companion instead of a good friend to accompany us through life’s turmoils. Loneliness, sadness, worry and fear are all to common in the heart of the people in this modern world, where can we find hope when we are so alone. Who can we turn to as we lay in our bed at night looking at the ceiling and wishing life had more meaning for us.

One of the amazing things that mankind has unintentionally created is a world of many people buzzing around in close proximity sleeping, working, playing, schooling, and just being busy getting on with each others individual life and still being capable of being incredibly lonely with so many people so close to us, but not close to our hearts.

We may ask “Why is it that some people are lonely in their own homes living with their family”, “why are many peoples family members strangers to each other”, they have nobody to turn to. Something is not working on a large scale, that’s obvious. Many people are combating loneliness by living the hard life, they are trying to cover up the dismal feelings that have been upsetting them. In order not to show weakness (in their eyes) they fake meanness and create a hard attitude to protect themselves until it becomes a way of life for them. So instead of finding a friend they grab loneliness and live with it until they pass on from this world.

Who really cares if we can send a man to the moon if we are unhappy and lonely back at home here on Earth. Humans great accomplishments may have improved our way of living, but it hasn’t cured the sad way that many billions of people are living today. In fact modern technology has helped create this fast paced lonely life.

The world music scene promotes love in the songs that are shot out to the public all year round, the music buying public gobble the music up to the merry tune of billions of dollars. You would expect that the world would be full of love and harmony with all this musical love playing on the airways world wide. Its obvious that we need something else to bring harmony to our lives.

Many people see the world these days in segregated groups and even if the general public don’t see people that way, many governments do. In this book we will look at you as an individual, you will not be classed as a woman, man, racial group or any other specific class, culture, country, race, majority or minority. We want to help you as a person, you need to see yourself as a person and not part of any group, this is important if you are to get the right information from this book to help you in your life. You will hear lots of talk from officials stating that people are not segregated into groups but then you hear about individual groups getting pay outs and special attention from governments and other sources, you may read about a woman’s group meeting in your area. Life today is full of such groups and while they have their uses we need to remember that we are each and everyone of us a human and that is how we want to communicate with you.

More and more pressure is being put on people as they enter the work force to compete and succeed, even if the person doesn’t want to be a go getter.

The boss of today wants to see results and fast, so the quicker the boss can get you moving as a professional in your particular job then the quicker the boss gets the results he or she wants. Often other services such as motivational people are brought in to try to motivate you to succeed in your job. The problem for you is trying to cope with all the information that is being packed into your head at a rate that suits your boss but not you. After all you are only human, and most of us have a reasonable learning curve which needs a bit of time and understanding to get going.

Interaction with other people is something that we can carefully manage to the extent that we can make our lives and others much easier and happier. Life doesn’t have to be complicated which is generally the way society is today, it seems to have run away with itself and charged on like a steamroller leaving the average human being struggling to keep up with the many changes that are happening on a daily basis.

We are not really born equal, even though many people will tell you that we are, we are all born naked but some of us are born with problems which make life a bigger challenge, however we are all born into this world to try to live together in a (hopefully) peaceful and productive way. From the day that we are born we have to learn many things, but luckily when we are first born, not much is expected of us. The real challenges come later on, months later, this is when we really get to show what we can do. Over the months from birth we learn to swallow liquid, consume food, grab objects, crawl and finally the most exiting thing for any baby to learn, we take our first steps and then we walk. This is such a major achievement to any child and its a pure joy to watch a child’s face when they start to walk for the first time.

These early years are very important to any child’s growth and if the child is not guided in a happy constructive family these early years can cause the child considerable confusion later on. Today’s child has many things to try to comprehend in this world and the struggle must be intense in that little mind. Consider what is available to today’s child compared with a couple of hundred years ago. Your child first sees you and other people, this is normal, you take it home from hospital and to the child’s surprise it sees other people on the television, computer screens and the like. An easy way to look at this is to imagine yourself as a native living in the bush for the last thirty years and then being brought into the average modern living room, with this analogy you can see the confusion and wonder for the amazed native. Imagine the joy to your baby when it hears sound from you as you talk to it and sing, then one day it notices that sound comes from the television, stereo speakers, and many other sources which are not human.

The point that I am getting at is that today’s child has to learn fast and has lots to try to learn and understand. We were brought up with less to learn but we expect our young ones to learn faster than us. We need to have lots of patience if we expect our babies to grow and learn and then become normal people. To add confusion to today’s child, many people now take the child and put it in a child care situation and forcing the child to learn to like and trust complete strangers at a very young, tender and impressionable age, this does have an affect on the child’s growth. Although today’s authorities state otherwise because they seek to preserve the status quo (the existing state of affairs).

The years roll on and the child grows up with many challenges and events, some positive, some negative and all events educational, all are to teach the child and help the child learn to adjust to adult life.

Many children are badly treated and this does make a big difference on how they react with the world later on. To emphasise this point I will tell you a little story about a bird that I found.

I was sitting on the grass at our local lake, I do this often to get some fresh air and to help me relax. The weather was clear and warm. I stood up after sitting for about twenty minutes and walked toward a tree and from there I was to walk around the lake and go home. I looked down for some reason and was faced with a despairing site, a baby bird was chirping frantically below a small branch, the chicks little mouth was wide open in the wasted effort to get some food from the low hanging branch which was just above the chicks beak. The branch could not feed the little chap but he didn’t know this and was obviously desperate to get its daily meal from the tree. What made the situation worse for the bird was the wind was blowing the branch up and down as if to offer a tasty morsel to the chick. I looked for its nest but couldn’t find one and to leave it there would be to leave it defenseless and an easy meal for some cat or dog.

From what I could make out both of the birds feet were broken or at least its toes were twisted in a hideous manner and it appeared to only just be able to stand upright. It seemed to my family and I that the chick had fallen from its nest somewhere near and had broken its little feet. When I was a child my family had found young wild bird chicks and we had tried to feed them but they always perished (as far as I can remember) so I was not to keen to take this little chap home and put my young children through the same desperate attempt to save the bird only to be bitterly disappointed with our failure.

The pathetic attempts from the young bird was to much for my soft heart, I have always had a soft spot for Gods animals and I decided that I would take the chick home. I picked it up and put a handkerchief on my hand, then with the bird on the handkerchief I put my hand in my vest side pocket to protect the bird.

We feed the little fellow many things in an attempt to keep up its nutrition, this was an exiting, experimental time for all my children. Finally a month went by and the little fellow was still with us, alive and well. I have to admit that I was surprised and pleased that we had managed to keep it alive so long and it had grown and lost most of its baby chicks feathers by this time. He (we thinks that its a male) has grown and looks strong and sturdy except one thing, his feet which have only slightly improved. We put many sticks around him in an effort for him to perch on them, it seems to have helped, but his feet still don’t look to good.

We (in an attempt to be good bird parents) first fed the bird by hand and then tried to get the bird to feed itself. I started to notice that the bird was not acting normal (as a bird should), when we took the bird outside it was very nervous and didn’t act comfortable at all around other birds. We also noticed that it preferred our food and not its normal food like worms and the like. He did eat worms but not often.

I placed bread on the lawn outside for the wild birds to eat, then I put our bird in between two pieces of bread hoping that our bird might fly away with the birds or at least learn some good bird behaviour from the other birds. We did this for weeks and after a while our bird (Hoppity) finally seemed to get used to being with other birds, he would not fly away. He was acting like a trained pigeon, he would fly to trees on other sections but would always fly back home to our place. We were also worried about Hoppity getting eaten by cats as he seems to have no survival instinct. When our dog sniffed Hoppity he pecked our dogs nose, he showed no fear of Bob (our dogs name is Bob).

The point of this story is how a young animal, like a young human, can grow up confused if it doesn’t have the correct teaching from the correct sources. So if a human child is not brought up by its parents in the correct manner then the child will have ‘life problems’. If the child’s parents do not teach the child how to use its emotions correctly during its first five or six years then the child will grow into an adult which has difficulties in this area. Hoppity appears to be totally happy by flying around our lounge and ‘nesting’ on our heads, then going to sleep, this, as you know, is not good bird behaviour where survival is concerned.

Children need good role modal’s to learn from. Male children need good male role modal’s, and female children need good female role modal’s. Hoppity’s only role modal’s in his early days (remember birds grow and mature faster than humans) were humans, and even though we tried very hard to give Hoppity the best upbringing that we could, it was not good enough. We just couldn’t replace the good role modal’s that a young wild bird needs, other mature birds.

If your parents were not emotionally strong during your young years you may be carrying emotional problems with every relationship that you have. You may wonder why other adults act differently than you do, but you learn to live with your behaviour and some people may even think that they are ‘a little strange. Many children today are brought up in one parent families which makes it difficult for the parent who has the children to be a good role modal for the children. I brought up my two eldest daughters from the ages of three (Rachel) and four (Tracy) and I found that it was a struggle trying to be two parents at once. The parent that is not living with the family can try hard to fix this problem but its not the same as them all living together.

Being a single parent taught me many things which I will treasure for my entire life but I was always aware that there were some things that I was never going to succeed at, for instance both my children were girls and there would be some things that I was not sure about and how to guide my daughters in some areas perfectly. The whole experience was a learning curve for all of us. I had the advantage of coming from a family of one boy (me) and six sisters, so I was aware of many female issues already.

Many children grow up in two parent families which have other problems like physical abuse, alcoholism, drugs and violence, these children face many problems and life from the start is a struggle for them. For these children getting on in the world will not be easy and they need additional teaching to help them cope with daily situations that others, people who grew up in stable families, do not struggle with.

Emotions are feelings that we learn to trust as we mature, but if we haven’t had the correct emotional teaching we will react in the wrong manner when emotionally, stressful situations arise. This causes us to be confused and people that deal with us will be confused with our behaviour.

Now that you have grown up and entered the world as an adult you have found that the world offers many challenges which you have to meet. You get to associate with many people and the social scene is very attractive and exiting. Television, DVD, CD-Rom and computers now offer many different forms of entertainment well beyond what was dreamed of a hundred years ago. Its dazzling the many options we have at our beck and call. The modern adult is used to getting things fast and we demand special service wherever we go, we want results as soon as possible coupled with total satisfaction. The work force has changed in leaps and bounds to add to the confusion of the modern age of technology.

What can we do to make it through this and have a happy family and satisfaction with our place in the world that society expects us to succeed in?

Your home is a place to get away from it all. A place where you can rest and mingle with the other family members. You all have fun together and this is where you are more relaxed than any other place on Earth. Right? If this is not the case then something is wrong.
