I think that in fairness God gives us another view of life than what society taught us. And then we get to go back and look at the old life again, and then choose from the two.
I knew a man years ago who had not had a cigarette for 20 years, and he told me that if he puffed a smoke that he would be completely addicted again.
But for me I am so completely disconnected with smoking that I could never smoke again. And I so completely disconnected to my old lifestyle that I could never do that again.
This is the conviction that God wants us to have. Because with this conviction we will never return to the old life because we completely understand the wrongs of those days. The more of us that follow God and the less of us that follow evil, and the better the world is.
Sadly some people go back to those old ways, suffer as they used to, and then complain about their lives.
All that we can do is try to help.
