Helping People grow!

Apologizing to Children.

When my daughter Rachel was about 4 to 5 years old I thought that she had done something wrong (probably because she was always getting up to mischief).

I don’t remember what happened, but have a deep emotional attachment to the result. I had given up spanking them and was trying to find alternatives to spanking and also trying to understand them better.

💕
On this occasion I put Rachel “in the corner” to sit and think about her crime. And she did this even though she knew that she was innocent. I gave her a strong lecture first even though she was trying to protest her innocence (of which I was not listening to).
Something happened and I discovered thats she was innocent. Instantly I felt crushed deep within, I looked at her sitting there on the floor, arms folded, sniffling, and I walked over to her and apologised though my tears. I felt very very guilty for my crime against my innocent child.

I asked her to get up and then when she did I took her place in the corner to face my punishment, and immediately little Rachel started sobbing and pulled at my clothes telling me to get up. I refused, and said that I deserved to be there, and she sobbed that I was the father and it was not the place for me, it was only for naughty children.
We hugged and cried together and I felt so blessed to have been loved, supported, understood and forgiven by a child more than I had ever been treated like that from any adults in my life.

Parenting and children, can teach us so much about ourselves and life if we are listening and learning, and being there for them in an emotional, fair, loving sense.
Children are the most important work on the planet, because they will form an change our future. They are also constant reminders that the world needs innocent fun, generous doses of laughter, and unconditional love.
