Grocery Shopping Online

I decided to try this out last week. So I went onto the Internet found the Countdown web site and made an online account with them.

I have a Onecard from Countdown that is about 12 years old or more (probably 15 years old, its very worn). They ask you for your card number when you create an account, so I gave them mine.

The next thing you do is find the products that you want to buy, and that is the fun part.

But be warned, you need to know your weights and so forth, because you can buy a bottle of a product online, and in the photo it looks large, yet when you get it, it is smaller, probably half the size.

The Delivery Fee was $14 from the local Tokoroa Countdown to Wairakei Place. Back in the 1990’s and 2000’s the delivery fee was free (as far as I recall). Back in the 1990’s a nice man in a white car would deliver the groceries, he was a manager or some such and he would always deliver the groceries and we would have a chat, a nice friendly service. Then they stopped the deliveries and now we have this very good service, but a tad expensive, especially for single families and the like.

On the morning of the delivery I got a phone call because the So good milk was not in stock so I had to buy a substitute, and the kind woman asked me if it was alright if I accepted the Vitasoy instead and I replied yes.

On the day of delivery 8-12-2021 I left my phone at home, went to see my next-door neighbours about a set of drawers they wanted to give away.

Then I went over to another neighbours for a while and we talked about firewood and so on. By the time I got home and was hosing my driveway down the delivery van arrived. I helped unload the groceries and the woman was very polite, and did her job well.

The paper bags were not so good, about 3 broke as I was carrying my groceries to the door. I would imagine that cardboard boxes would have been better.

Countdown was ever so nice as to give me three little booklets welcoming me to shopping online with them.
So I probably can assume that whoever you get your groceries off will have specials and the like for their customers because they want to keep them.

All in all, a good service, professional and kind staff, they ring you when some product is not in, and they deliver on the day they said they would.

All the best from
James M Sandbrook.
