Find a Reason to Wake Up each Day

It is important to wake up at a decent time each morning no matter what.
This helps prepare you for the day and stops you falling into the very bad habit of sleeping in each morning.

What I would do, and I did this for many years, was for 6 days a week I would get up at about 7:30am and get dressed, then walk to the local shop to buy 1 loaf of bread.
The idea was to force myself to wake up for a reason, and then by going outside and forcing myself to walk to the shop each morning woke me up and helped me get ready for the new day.

Also a motivator is all the people you can meet walking to the shop, the short chats with people, the smiles, waves and “Hellos!”, they all help remind ourselves that we are a part of the world, that people are nice, that people like us and that even casual friendships are nice.

Also if you chat to people you learn about what is going on in your area of town, what is going on in town, or in the country, politics and the world, people love to talk, so they are often very keen to share what they know and their opinions.

There were many many days I did not want to wake up in the morning in a cold house when the bed was warm and cosy, but I would still force myself to get up anyway. And it becomes a habit, and you start to enjoy the people who walk the streets at the same time as you do, and the simple but interesting chats and so on.

You could get up and exercise, or garden, the idea is to find a reason to get up and start your day so that you don’t fall into the bad habit that so many people fall into when they are on a tight budget and pointlessly sleeping in.

Going for an early morning walk has the advantage of getting us out of the house, into the cool morning air and mingling with people, while getting some form of exercise as well.
It is very good for the soul to get up early and have human contact no matter how small, and to have early exercise and so on.

All the best from
James Martin Sandbrook.
