Don’t Be Afraid to Walk Out of conversations that are upsetting or you can sense that you are being set up or are being peer-pressured by a group off people.
Walking out of an argument or bad situation is not an admission that you are wrong, it is called common sense and the wise thing to do because if you stay you will have to tolerate what the others push you in to having to deal with. But if you walk out they have no control over you and they cannot change your mind by pressure or bullying, so please, feel free to just get up and walk out of the room.
If you look on social media there are videos of famous people having to put up with foolish people and foolish questions and they put up with the foolishness just enough to be polite and to give the other person a chance to stop being a bully or asking foolish/private (that are none of their business) questions, but when it is clear that nothing will change, the person being interviewed just gets up and walks out.
When you leave a pointless situation or a pointless conversation/argument you are making it clear to the other person or people that you have boundaries, and that this person or group crossed those boundaries and enough is enough, and this is all that you are willing to put up with this time and in the future, thus, they know that if they bully you again you will walk out again.
I have been walking out of conversations like this for years, and every time I do it I am very pleased that I walked away.
The biggest control they have of us is our pride, our reacting to their taunting or bullying, or being called weak, or that we cannot prove our arguments.
People who are dedicated to proving you wrong, shaming, blaming and hurting you will use manipulative tactics to make you stay and argue, but if you do they will tire you out and you will give in and let them have their way, and that is what they tricked you in to doing.
You cannot, and will not every prove your point of view or beliefs to people who see you as a lesser person than them.
Also, if it is a spiritual belief that you have, such as a strong belief in God, you will never be able to get through to people who are not on the same level of understanding God as you are on, so your efforts, arguments and so on, are a total complete waste of time and effort – best you shake the dust off your feet and be with people who do think as you do, your spiritual family and tribe.
In such situations the people who don’t believe as you do get a huge thrill/kick out of forcing you to change your beliefs and to do as they demand you do – this is their weakness not yours – your strength is leaving them to what they belief and not taking part in foolish arguments which do you no good at all and will never change their thinking.
Leave them to God.
The last time it happened I was in a car with someone who I worked with who had a higher rank, and he was nasty, abusive, name calling, and because we were in the car and he was driving he slowed the car down to allow himself a longer time to hurl childish bully insults.
It took all my efforts not to smack his foolish face. I was supposed to work that night but I was so furious for his behaviour I got out of the car when it stopped and walked home and only once after that in an emergency situation did I ever get into a car with him again. I reported him to top management and I was told not to get in to the car with the guy even though he was my superior.
I made sure that the situation was never given the chance to repeat itself, meaning that he was never given the chance ever again to bully me again. But honestly, the thing that worried me was that he was pushing my boundaries and I had to use a lot of strength to not hit him, which i very much wanted to do, but I didn’t want to lose my job over him.
People, bullies, they can push us to violence and then claim innocene, so please, be slow to anger and like I did, walk away and let others sort the bully out.
Bullies will push you and push you, and when you retaliate and hit them they are quick to play the victim and make sure everyone hears their sad story and see their black eye. This is why dealing with a bully as soon as possible is a good idea.
Recognize this tactic as coming from people who have no respect for you. They are using their bad communication to try to change you in to them.
People who know that they can press you into agreeing with them, or doing things their way, will call you scared, scared to argue, hurl insults, or they will say that you are leaving the conversation or argument because you know that you are wrong and you can’t argue because of that, all they are doing is trying to hurt your pride so that you will rejoin the argument so that they can win with pressure and constant arguing until you have had enough and you let them get their way because you have become too tired to fight anymore.
If the argument is not doing you any good, then do yourself a very healthy favour and walk out, and wisdom is staying away from people who constantly try to get you to go against your own will and what you love and believe in.
