We must be careful when we are handing out punishments to our children because we could hurt the child physically and then force the child with harsh words to do as we want, but the child could do it with a simple instruction.
We may speak harshly to adults and assume that we can speak to our children in the same way, but children have not adult minds, so they are unsure and unprepared for the ways of adult arguments, demands, and expectations.
Sometimes we let the child’s negative responses get us down and it feels like we are under the heavy weight of the child’s negative responses and attitude. We know that we are doing the right thing by asking the child to do chores but sometimes the child will just go on and on with negatives.
A firm direction from you to the child is what is needed, without any physical punishment. Just set to it and tell the child what is required of him or her with an explanation and the child spoken to with respect and love. I will assume that you have already told the child why the chore is needed to be done, why he has to do it and what an important part he plays in the family and that it is important that he does the chore and does it well.
