I want to share some thoughts that I have about Temu and its operation.
I started using Temu probably when it begun. I bought some washers, but they were smaller than the image, and I realised that with Temu you need to have a ruler on the computer table to actually get the real sizes because lots of the Product Photos are not very clear about size.
I went on to buying various items, mostly what we cannot get in Tokoroa, New Zealand, and also some items I never new existed.
I bought a lot of things for fixing things and inventing things, like liquid rubber, shoe glue, rubber strips, metal clips of various types, clothes pegs that were steel or wood, screws, socket sets, various brackets and such.
Once again though I was fooled by the photos and bought brackets that were far smaller than they were in real life.
One of the recent observations I have made with Temu is that New Zealand companies are using Temu now to sell their products, and some are very good, and some are trash. So be careful. It is nice to see local companies using the service to sell their products on Temu though.
Another observation, and this is an important one. Recently I bought two very cheap items. One was a food blender, and another a cheap memory card, and the blender immediately got stuck on a piece of fruit due to its lack of power. If everything is cut tiny it works, but does not live up to the advertising on Temu.
The memory card was cheap, many people liked them, 5 star reviews etc, but when I formatted and tried them they claim to be 256 gigabytes, but after a certain amount of storage is used on them the data disappears – does not copy over even though it states it has. My take on this is that the memory is smaller in size than claimed by the company who sold them on Temu.
And this also brings up the point that many people in the reviews I believe are fakes. Many say the exact same things, give the same 5 star ratings, and the product in reality sucks.
Also Temu is big, thus it is harder to check everyone out. So customers need to be careful.
How do the dodgy companies get passed this?
They put the product on Temu, sell a lot, then quickly discontinue the product so that disappointed people cannot leave reviews telling of how the product is hopeless.
Both the blender and memory card companies did this. When I went to leave a review both products were discontinued.
But when I searched for the items on Temu they were listed again as new products. So they will do the same when people realise that they got fooled and when they go to leave the reviews the companies will discontinue them, and then relist them again.
While the products don’t live up to how good the company claims, they were very cheap and it was not that much of a big deal, but still disappointing.
As with many things, buy local, if you can, buy from brand names that have a good reputation, but Temu still has some very interesting items such as much cheaper welding hoods. About $400 in NZ, about $50 on Temu and so far mine has worked fine. Welding rods, good, welding apron excellent, welding gloves good quality.
There are still good products on Temu, and if you are on a budget you can get some good deals still.
Oh yes, and I have got material for sewing (check the sizes), bobbins for my sewing machine, many needles, and such. So, just be careful with Temu.
Most products on Temu seem to come from China. But visit your local stores here in New Zealand and most products seem to also come from China, but are more expensive.
Oh, and also, some items on Temu are very cheap, mass brought and people are selling them on places like Trade Me at higher prices.
What I tend to do if I want something I do a New Zealand search on the Internet, if I can’t find it local, then I check Temu. Some items on Trade Me are cheaper, or locally in New Zealand than Temu. But some are clearly bought off Temu and sold on Trade Me for much more, so please be aware of this.
