The New Balance 880 Shoes for running and active people.

About 10 years ago (I am not sure of the exact length of time) I was having trouble with my feet hurting underneath when I walked long distances. My daughter Rachel saw this and she and her husband took me to Rotorua (New Zealand) to have these people in a store that was supposed to be experts in feet have a look at my feet. The young woman who served us and who looked at my feet couldn’t find anything wrong (even though there is a lump under one foot she somehow missed) but she did me a great favour by showing me the New Balance 880 v4 shoes which my daughter bought for me.

I am still using the version 4 (880v4) shoes, but they are heavily worn, so I was in need of new shoes.
Over the years as they cracked and broke here and there I used show glue to mend them. All my other shoes fell apart eventually but not the New Balance 880v4 shoes.

One big advantage for cyclists is that if you don’t use cycling shoes like me, you will find that cheap sandshoes/sneaker/runners etc, break in the outer sole, but the v4 New Balance shoes don’t.

Recently I decided to upgrade and bought a pair of the New Balance 880v11 shoes, as pictured below.

New Balance shoes have width sizes as well as shoe size, so I had a choice of these widths:

Standard-Wide-X-Wide

I chose Wide.
The theory was that if I had a pair of size 9 shoes and I tried them on if they were tight or firm then it is always wise to go a Width higher, and I had some work boots and other shoes that were a firm size nine, so I decided to choose Wide.

Imagine my surprise when I got the shoes that they were a firm fit bordering on tight. But after wearing them a few days they loosen up to be a nice firm fit.

Since my version 4 880 shoes lasted around 10 years I decided to get yet another pair which arrived this morning.

I would have liked the same colour as v4 and v 11, but that was not available here in New Zealand so I got “Spring Tide with Vibrant Orange and Morning Fog“, you got to love the names of the colours of the shoe.

I went up to size 9.5 and they are a small amount roomier than size 9.
If I wanted a lot of room I would need to go up to size 10.

All versions that I have tried of the 880 shoes for running, cycling and walking are comfortable and nice to wear.
