Sewing
Where I live in Tokoroa, New Zealand it can get very cold int he Wintertime with very chilly frosts. To keep warm I use neck warmers, and they are all right but often too small-too tight of too big. So I bought some fleece and made my own Neck Warmer.
But often cold chilly air got through my clothing on the chest and got to my chest. So I came up with the idea of a Chest Warmer attached to the Neck Warmer.
My first attempt was a store bought Neck Warmer and a square of Fleece sewed to the front of the Neck Warmer – this was easy to do and works well.
My next idea was to make my own Neck Warmer. I but a rectangle after measuring my neck size and adding a seam allowance, sewed a hem all around, and then with it inside out sewed the 2 ends together.
Then I turned it right side out and it was a slighty loose Neck Warmer.
I then decided to make a Chest Warmer or what you could call a Warming Bib, to block out chilly air getting to my chest.
In Fig 1. on the left is the Neck Warmer, then in the Middle is a drawing of the Bib, and on the Right is the two of them sewed together.
I was very easy to make. But what I decided to do in the end was to use Fleece then in the middle use canvas, then on the other side another layer of Fleece, all sewed together like a sandwich, then sewed to the Neck Warmer.
This turned out to be a very comfortable Neck and Chest Warmer setup.
Some idea’s are adding some sort of thin plastic or something that is waterproof and adding that to the chest Warmer/Bib to keep wet off your chest in rainy weather.
Another is adding a small later of Denim or Canvas on the outside of the neck Warmer to keep wind out, or to make the Neck Warmer a few layers of Fleece as well.
