One New Zealand millionaire said that watching TV is like watching other people make money. It is a well known fact that people who want to make a better life for themselves watch very little TV.
I gave up public TV in 1994 having tired of endless advertising and a lack of quality and value in modern TV. About 2012 I got Sky TV for a year and barely watched it, except for documentaries and history, but the rest of TV that I tried watching irritated me more than entertained me.
I buy DVD’s and watch them, but they are only of what interests me, not what the new craze is or what is popular or trashy.
When I was a Software Programmer we used a term of “Garbage In Garbage Out”. What this means is that if you put garbage in to something the only thing that comes out is garbage.
The same reasoning can be said about people who read cheap fiction, comics all day, and public TV, you cannot expect to become a thinker, or intelligent, or a good conversationalist and of value if all that goes in to your mind is garbage.
What you put in to your mind you get out of your mind. If you want to be clever, intelligent, seen as a thinker, wise and someone to say has common sense, then you need to be sure to enter into your mind intelligent good material.
I was not good at English writing and one of the things I got in to was the writings of the great novelists like Charles Dickens, and it took me a while to be able to read his books because of his big words and long explanations and such, but it has been said that back in the 1800’s when his books were very popular that they educated the reader because to enjoy the great stories one had to learn the meanings of the big words and I did as well. I became a better writer after reading the likes of Charles Dickens.
People say that we are boring if we read too much, but to read while other people are being foolish means that at the end of the day you are 24 hours more intelligent than all of the others.
I have read books about becoming a pilot, engineering, mathematics, the great pioneers, the wealthy, the poor, the historical events of time, outer space and all the theories, and so on, and I may not be an expert in any of them, but with only a small amount of additional reading I can get much better on any of those subjects.
But if you ask me about the rock stars, movie stars, TV shows/series, sports events of the last 3 decades there is little I know about them, and I have never regretted missing out on the things that captivate the masses and keep them weak-minded, and of little value in their own lives.
People of value know stuff, do stuff, think stuff, look anything up that makes them curious, and ask the important questions that come to mind when they are thinking about some subject or how to do something, and what makes something work.
Thinkers are curious about how things work, and that makes them more interesting as a human being and of value to people whoa re curious about the same subjects.
Thinkers and curious people take things apart, they try to find out how things work, what makes them tick, what causes energy, power, loss of energy and power, what the load of the object has on its action/moment and so on.
The thinker gets excited about life, the cause and effect, the ways to change lives, or to change mechanics, electronics, and enjoy hobbies and sharing what he or she knows with others to help them mature grow and become better more interesting people.
But there is another important reason why thinkers are tinkerers, instead of people who waste their valuable time on endless pointless entertainments, and that is a person who uses their mind is creating an active, wondering, thoughtful, visionary, mind, that thinks, takes on challenges, gets excited over wonderful happenings that the TV viewers pass over with boredom.
Filling your mind with intelligence, other people’s experiences, the sciences, mechanical and electrical, and natural theories, outer space, the wonders of life, make your mind a thinking mind that can cope with any situation in the world.
People who fill their minds with intelligence, and good thinking material, are seen by the foolish as wise, gifted and amazing, because the foolish never tried to take the time to fill their minds with good quality information, they just God with the Flow, do what everyone else is doing.
You see, you cannot have a good theory or opinion of religion unless you read about all the religions, or about outer space until you read the many theories and seen the many documentaries.
I remember at Kinlieth a computer expert was brought in from Rotorua to fix a printer, and i was studying course son computer repair, and i found what was wrong, but when I told the computer expert who was get a lot of money to be there for the repair, he snubbed me and walked off. Only to eventually come back and announce to the other workers what was wrong as if he had found it, and it was what i had originally suggested was wrong. I didn’t have his special training or title, but my keen interest and studies had helped me discover the problem about 20 minutes before he did.
The point is, that the more your mind is being challenged to think, the more it will think, do and come up with intelligent wise ideas, suggestion and such. The TV watcher, party goer, gets no intelligent input, the TV and other entertainment does all the work for them, thus they lose the ability to rationally think, yet they often have the loudest demanding opinions about many subjects of which in reality they know very little about.
