Taught Weaknesses We Should Ignore

One of the battles for the modern teenager and young adult and grown man is not being able to recognise weakness or fruitless fads and meaningless activities, that seem at the time the big thing, but in the long run were only pushed out by society to keep a part of commercialism in a boost of new money.

This is not a new practice by Government and Business. I heard on a radio station a few decades back and the people who were talking were talking bout the 5-A-Day fruit advertising and how it was not based on the public’s health, but on the dwindling sales in the fruit industry. An advertising campaign designed to make adults feel guilty if their children didn’t get that 5 a day or whatever the latest push was, then the child will suffer with bad health.

So the posters were put basically everywhere children were, and parents got a good dose (like drug pushing) that if they are a good parents they “must” get 5 fruit a day for their child/children, thus hugely in a short period of time boosting sales in the fruit industry.

There were fads, like the rings that people played with, toy fads, getting a tattoo on one shoulder or leg meant that is some way you are cool, tough, somehow better, certain food and drink advertising, certain hairdos, all designed to boost an industry and bring in lots of fast easy cash.

Say a tattoo fad hits the streets and you get that particular tattoo, and your children watch – you are teaching them to be followers like you are, weakened by the “latest thing”.

Our goal must be for our children’s sake to put on a strong fatherly figure, so that they can see that it is alright to not follow what everyone else does, and good not to partake or waste money in those things.

If you made a mistake in the past through what you feel was submitting to the latest fad of some sort, don’t be ashamed and angry, stop the cycle here, with you, so that your children don’t do the same things as the crowds they see when they grow up.

This may all seem harsh, but like most of us I fell for many materialistic fads, and I had to think and change to give myself more control of my own life.

Everything I wrote is about how I fell, fell again, finally learned and changed, and it hurt my pride and I often felt ashamed with the changes I learned to make, but now am much happier for taking my own life into my own hands and being what I wanted to be.

But please note, I am not looking down on anyone, or thinking that I am better by giving this advice, we are all in this life together and i am sharing what I learned, take it as you will, and if you see change that you want in your life after reading something that I wrote that is wonderful, go for it, learn to be you.

Be happy with you as you are and as you have always been, and know that other peoples opinions, just means that they have not figured this out yet.

Watch people partake in the latest fads, and with interest you can watch people lining up to be included in some pointless hype that changes nothing about them and their lives, and this really only shows them to be weak because they flock to do what everyone else does without questioning it or being different.

When we see weakness in others, the wise don’t join in, they walk away.

Part of our growing up was to become of who we are, all that we needed, and getting on with the basics. But see, a wise man does not spend a lot, he is in control, he is not easily led, when the next “Government funded” claim or the next fad comes along he will just let it go by and not spend a cent on it. This type of man is frowned upon by business and government, because he is not a sort of person who will support struggling business.

The same can be said for the new music style, all the masses flock to it, and even if it sounds musically doubtful it is bought up in the millions making stars from people who are not that talented. But if you don’t partake then society see’s you, or those of you own age group see you as weird, strange, not one of them.

The secret to not allow peer pressure to get to you is to simply not partake and also not care about other people’s views or losing them. If you don’t care what they think and it does not bother you if they are not in your life anymore, what they claim, say and try to pressure you in to doing becomes powerless. Because, you see, the only power that other people had over you when they pressured you was the power you let them have.

Not being affected by other peoples or society demands of you makes you much more powerful and able to be you as you want you to be, and not how others or society demands that you be.

Thus, if your mates are going to get drunk, smoke their first cigarette, get a tattoo, and so on, you recognise that they are not as Life Educated as you are and that they are all about to do something that they will regret later on, but you won’t because you won’t be part of the group when they take that step towards a lifetime of regrets, you will be home doing something much more worthy.

We need to be aware as young adults that society today is based on Commercialism, since childhood we have all been bombarded with expert advice on TV, in books, Government control, and a lot of advertising in magazines, shop windows, TV, radio and so on, a constant teaching that if you want to enjoy life it can only be done with you spending, following the crowd, buying what everyone else has, and having a house, car, life, in debt to make other people happy.

You are not weak materialistically because you are weak-minded, you have been surrounded by a constant feed of advertising everywhere you went, what you watched, did, and as you passed shops.

People are not naturally sexually weak. It was discovered decades ago that sex sells products, so they included sexy people with the so-called  perfect bodies, looks, clothing and so on to sell their products, and it works, but it also is a constant bombardment for the child-teenager-young adult, then adult mind, about sex, and then TV, radio, magazines, movies are all soaked in it – this is where this weakness comes from, society itself.

It is very easy as a young adult or adult to feel ashamed and claim that we are weak without realising that we are really victims of commerce trying to make-a-buck of anyone, even children allowances. A sale is a sale.

One of the reasons we, my children and I,  stopped watching public TV back in 1994 was as a single father on welfare, the large amount of children’s advertising and my children often begging me to get the latest toys for them that cost a lot of money, was after a while an experience I was tired of having to go through so I disconnected the aerial and the children (3 and 4 years old) just had to live without the TV, but I still got them DVDs, VHS and so on, and also got them into sports like Karate that kept their afternoons busy.

I deeply disliked the way that TV was making my children weak-minded and materialistic.

For some weakness is a choice, but for most of us as we grow up we are entirely unaware that we are being trained to be weak minded in the sense that business needs us to participate in buying regularly so that they can survive.

Once we can recognise that we are not weak by choice, but were weakened for the convenience of others (remember with every sale the Government gets tax money) we can now realise that we can choose and not participate in the fads, or the well designed and acted advertising with the pretty people on them, we can only buy what we need/want within reason thus being more in control of our own life, what we do, how we think, what we eat, what we drink, and also how we live.

Please always remember, that another person’s view of you is heavily based on what he or she has experienced in life – experiences that had nothing to do with you, and were different from your own experiences, so they are assuming that they can condemn, put down, judge and correct you as they see fit. Worrying about what other people think, you will realise, is a waste of time.

Freedom is walking away from the weaknesses that trap and control other people, because you will like yourself so much more for having the courage to be you as you wish you to be. Be true to yourself, and you will enjoy your life much better.

Consider your musical tastes. One of the areas where peer pressure and control of people’s public image is greatly affected is if they submit to the latest music when there they privately like it or not, they must be seen to like it, buy it, partake in its dancing rituals and so on, otherwise they are not included in the crowd.

If you one day discover that you like the music of Mantovani, violin music, trumpet, Jazz, whatever that is different from the common musical fad in action, go listen to what interests you, even get an instrument and learn to play that instrument.

Learn to not fear other people’s opinions.

Learn to just see what they think as their opinion and that’s all. If people give wise advice then that is good to learn/listen to, but the latest craze is basically a sign that masses of people whoa re weak minded will line up and spend their money on it, especially teenagers and the latest music craze. These crazes are designed by the music industry to make them a lot of money, by taking your money off you by convincing you that the craze makes you somehow an important person because you like what everyone else likes, even if secretly you don’t like it.

See other people as ‘doing their thing” and your life as You Doing Your Thing.
Be an individual and be very pleased that you have the courage to step away from the masses and think for yourself, because this gives you Depth and Value and teaches you that not standing with the crowd is a wonderful courageous thing to do, and it also gives you a lot more control of your own life.
