It could be pride, ego, vanity and such, you know, people who refuse to learn and grow with your advice and prefer to do it themselves.
But it also could be that a person thinks that if he or she starts from the bottom or take the hard road they will gain so much more than they would have done with other people’s experiences and advice.
Also the easier alternative may not be the best, or most healthy, or most productive way of doing what we want to do or have done.
