Elizabeth Blackwell (Feb 3, 1821 - May 31, 1910)




It is said she was admitted to New York's Geneva College as a joke in 1847
 
She was able to overcome taunts and prejudice while at medical school and
she earnt her degree in 1849 and showing her ability she graduated at the top of her class. American hospitals refused to hire her so she decided to
opened a clinic in New York City her sister Dr Emily Blackwell and Dr Marie
E. Zakrzewska joined her.
 
In 1868, Blackwell opened the Woman's Medical College of the New York Infirmary, a high quality institution which remained open until 1899, when women were first admitted to Cornell University Medical School. Elizabeth was America's first woman doctor.
After lots of hard work and taunts and prejudice she managed to get her degree in 1949, she was the top of her class.
