It is not just the poor that are the victims, it is those who are rich, selfish, greedy, lost and those who look after themselves without caring for the lost. And that does include churches.
By showing these people that they can share, and to become charitable, and to spend more time helping people rather than feathering their own nests or hiding from society. Instead they become free from the slavery of selfishness and bitterness that they live inside their heads that hardens their heart.
It can only get better if we remain strong and keep giving people hope. There is always someone in a worst position that we are in and we must do the best that we can to share and to brighten their lives, and due to what we have experienced we can help them too.

The book a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens gives the wonderful example of Ebenezer Scrooge who had a selfish hardened heart and lost soul, and was given a new lease of life by learning to care, be charitable, and to love others. It was his enlightenment, it gave him new life, new happiness, and a new hope for himself, made him many new friends, and instead of being disliked and rejected by society Scrooge was welcomed in everyone’s home. You could say he repented and was born again!
