"We are a very spiritual people and we believe in God. We work hard and relax with nature, everything we take from the land we put back. In fact we repair a lot of the damage made by humankind. Our woman are hard working and they enjoy good times with their husbands, the men do the hard physical work while the woman do much the same as your women did a hundred years ago."
"We live a simple life and are very happy being this way. We don't have the bickering and confusion of your race. Humans have made themselves so complex that they can't seem to understand themselves anymore."
"I can see what you mean." I said thinking about the hustle and bustle of human life in these modern times. "How do you heal yourselves? Do you have doctors?"
"Not the same as human doctors, we have been studying your race for centuries and we prefer to use other methods to heal our people." said Enie.
I found all this information amazing. To think that mankind can send a rocket to the moon yet they don't know what's in our own back yard seems amazing.
"Some humans use crystals and rocks for healing, do your people do this?"
"Yes my wife uses crystals for healing. Every object on earth has its own energy or essence and we can tap into this energy and use it to our own advantage all the while giving energy back to the Earth." said Enie.
"I don't quite understand" I said a bit confused.
"Its really simple when you think about it. We, like humans, have two sides to our brains, the right side represents the spiritual side and the left is the material world side, the physical side."
I interrupted and said "When you say 'spiritual' do you actually mean spirits as in ghosts and the like?" I was curious and keen to learn what made this tiny race survive.
"Oh yes!. Have you ever prayed", said Enie.
"Only when I was a child", I said.
"Don't worry about it. Just relax and get back to nature, enjoy life. Watch television and the like in moderation, if you live a crowded hustling and bustling life you cannot hear the advice that is being given to you", said Enie.
Changing the subject I asked, "What about money, do you use money?"
"No not at all, we trade things and give with our caring hearts to those in need. This is a more peaceful way of living."
"I can understand why", I said.
Right then we heard a truck coming towards us. I said to Enie "It looks like we have company"
Enie said goodbye and ran back to the bushes to be with his family. I waited to see what brought the truck out here. It was just a forest ranger checking to see if I had a licence to cut firewood in this area. I showed him my licence and then I went home.
I thought about what Enie had said to me over the next couple of days and I thought his race had some very silly healing ideas, but other than that I liked them and decided that I would go out there once or twice a week to get to know them better.
One day I was making some sandwiches when I heard in the distance an explosion, I ran outside and had a look around trying to figure out what had caused the explosion.
I looked in the direction of Enie's home and saw smoke rising from the trees.
I stood there for a while trying to see what had happened and then I ran inside and turned on my Multi-band radio that can pick up police and emergency transmissions.
It wasn't long before I heard a message stating that a helicopter had crashed out by the Weenie Beenies home. I ran to the Ford and jumped in and sped down my gravel driveway to see if I could help.
When I got to the crash scene the ambulance was there and the Tokoroa and Kinlieth Paper Mills fire engines were hosing down the smashed up helicopter. I ran over to a fireman and asked "What happened and can I help?"
"We are not sure what brought the helicopter down, thankfully the pilot only broke a leg so he is going to be all right. The choppers smashed up pretty bad and we are trying to stop the fire from spreading. So far we don't need any help but hang around back there in the clearing. We may need volunteers later." said the fireman.
I walked back to the clearing and that was when I saw behind a rock a small flash of light, then I saw many flashes of light which were in different colours. It was as if someone was trying to get my attention, I walked toward it and saw a very worried looking Enie. He had been flashing a multicoloured crystal in the sunlight. I sat down in the grass by the rock, looking around I noticed that nobody was looking my way, they were all out of hearing range and closer to the helicopters burning blaze. I said to Enie "What up, what's wrong?"
"If that fire spreads then we will all be killed. My people are worried and some have already started to panic. The crash gave us all a terrible shock as you can imagine." said Enie.
"Hmm, we can just keep an eye on things. Uh Oh, look" I said pointing to the fire, a big gust of wind fed the fire and it was getting higher, we could see spark rising up with the flames and the fire was starting to spread. The grass was dry and easily burnt. "Enie what are you going to do, can I help?"
"I will go back to my people and tell them what's happened" said Enie rushing off with speed.
