The Tucker Twins

"So that means we have ten minutes to get into the house" said Mary.

"Sure does, they have just left so lets go."

And with that Ben opened the large barn door and they snuck outside.

Running quietly up to the house they walked alongside it to look for a window that might be slightly ajar.

Mary stopped and was trying to look through a window when a hand grabbed her ankle, she yelped and covered her mouth to stop the noise. Ben spun around and looked at her, she pointed to her leg and Ben could see a hand wrapped around her ankle. He dropped to his knees and saw that the hand was coming from a small window just above ground level.

The hand went back inside the window and a face appeared, it was Jake smiling. He had a black eye.  "Sorry I had to grab her, if I called out somebody would have heard" whispered Jake.

Ben whispered "How can we get in"?

"Dad used to keep a back door key under the large pot plant by the door, have a look and see if its still there".

Ben rushed to the door knowing that their ten minutes was running out fast. He lifted the large pot plant and felt under it. First he found nothing but after a short while he felt a piece of steel and he new that it was the key.

Ben felt Mary touch his shoulder, she whispered "We have to get back to the barn fast", Ben smiled and help up the door key, he turned and put the key in the lock, he turned the key and he heard the clunk as the mechanism unlocked the door. He turned the door handle and slipped inside with Mary close behind, just as Ben closed the door he heard the guards talking as they came around the corner.

They were in a large hall and neither of them new how to get to the basement. Slowly they crept through the silent house. To Ben and Mary's surprise the door next to them opened and Ben was face to face with the toffee nosed butler. The butler stared at Ben and Mary in shock and then opened his mouth to yell and then Ben hit him smack on the chin, the butler fell and Ben caught him before he hit the ground, he then dragged the butler back into his room. Mary followed.

They waited for the butler to wake up. Mary splashed some water on the butlers face from a basin. His eyes opened and he was about to yell again when Ben raised his fist and whispered "Don't do it or I'll smack you again", the butler closed his mouth after hearing the threat because he new Ben would keep his word.

"How do we get to the basement"? Ben asked.

The butler just stared, he was terrified.

Ben asked again and the butler answered shakely, "Go down the hall and turn left, the first door on your right leads down to the basement.".

Ben said to Mary "Have you got any rope in that bag of tricks Mary"?

"Yes".

"Good then we will tie him up and gag him and then be on our way" said Ben.

After that was done they opened the door carefully and stepped into the hallway, they saw that nobody was about. They crept down the hall and peeked around the corner, Ben could see the door to the basement, they went around the corner and headed to the basement door and just then they heard voices, it was Dirk and Sheza coming down the hall.

Ben and Mary made a mad rush to the basement door, Ben noticed a key in the lock so he turned the key and then opened the door and both he and Mary burst into the basement closing the door behind them. They stopped at the top of the stairway leading down to the basement. They could hear Dirk and Sheza arguing about where they would get another cook and when. Sheza was not happy.

Ben and Mary waited until they went past and then they headed down the stairs, at the bottom they met Dr Jones and Jake. They ran over to them and saw that they didn't have their handcuffs on anymore.

Ben raised a finger to his lips and said "Sssshhhh". Then he looked at Jake and said "Nice shiner Jake, Dirk did it huh".

Jake nodded his head.

"He is a coward, Dirk hit Jake while two thugs held his arms and he was still handcuffed", said an angry Dr Jones, "We got to teach that boy a lesson or two".

"We got to get out of here first" said Mary.

"I left the door unlocked so we can go out the hallway but what happens if we are seen, we need a plan of some sort or our goose is cooked" said Ben anxious to leave as soon as possible.

"Why don't we try to capture Dirk and Sheza, I mean we are in the house and its going to be very hard trying to get past all the guards and such" said Jake.

"We came after them anyway" said Dr Jones thoughtfully, "I think thats a good idea".

So they sat down and tried to work out a plan.
