The Tucker Twins

Written by James Martin Sandbrook - 2005

Page 20 - The End.

"Dirk was the black sheep of the family, I guess he just got to greedy" said Mr Worthington watching his eldest son being taken off to prison, "I have my family again and that's all that matters to me".

"Ahhhh, here comes the new sheriff, its nice to know that the Worthington family is now on the side of the law these days" said an amused Dr Jones.

"Howdy folks, is everything alright" said Sheriff Jake Worthington walking up to them, trying to act the part of the local sheriff, his chest puffed out and the noon sun shining on his brand new sheriffs badge, gun belt tied around his waist on an angle with a colt 45 in the holster.

"That badge looks good on you Jake" said Mary proudly looking at her older brother, "I know you will be an honest sheriff, I am so proud of you", she then walked over and hugged Jake.

"Thanks Mary, I will do my best" said a pleased Jake feeling the importance of his new position and trying to get used to the idea that he was on the right side of the law these days and not hiding in the mountains with a gang of thieves.

"You will need a new deputy", said Ben hopefully and trying to act older than his age, Ben puffed out his chest and tried to look taller.

"When you are a bit older Ben, ten is a tad too young to go around hunting crooks and getting shot at as a full time occupation", smiled Jake, "and anyway, shouldn't you be in school, like other children your age. Part of my new job as sheriff is to make sure children don't play hooky, and I really don't want to arrest my own brother and sister now do I"?

Ben and Mary had forgotten about school and now that it had been brought up neither of them was pleased. "We hadn't forgotten about school", “We just forgot to go", said Ben smiling and Mary nodding her head in agreement blonde hair bobbing as she nodded.

"The twins won't be going to school for a while, I am taking the them both to England", said Mr Worthington crouching down and looking into their eyes he put a hand on Ben's shoulder and his other hand on Mary's shoulder. Both Ben and Mary eyes widened and they looked very excited at this news.

"I have lots to make up to these two children. I have done them wrong in my moment of grief in the past and now I feel it in my heart to do what I can to make it up to them", "Without you two wanting to come back and see justice done, I would still be locked upstairs in my bedroom, I feel that I owe you all so much", he said looking around at all of them, "I gave the twins up once, I will never do that again".

Mr Worthington stood up and looked at them all "During our lives we all make mistakes but often we do not get the chance to make amends, I plan to do just that, to make things right".

Mr Worthington turned around with the twins and they headed towards the house to have lunch.

Jake and Dr Jones overheard Mr Worthington saying "Did you know that we are related to a famous Knight back in England, what do you know about Knights, Knights honour and Chivalry children?" he continued without waiting for them to reply, "we will go back and see about that title and visit his castle..., Oh and by the way I am told that it is haunted" said Mr Worthington with a big grin on his face.

Dr Jones and Jake smiled at each other and then turned and followed Mr Worthington and the twins into the house, after lunch they would all be going to visit Mr and Mrs Tucker.

Ben and Mary decide to keep the name Tucker in honour of Mr and Mrs Tucker who took care of them while they were young.
